The Never-Ending Edit

Hi everyone…still editing. It may seem like it has been forever and it sure feels that way to me J I’m not a super slow editor, but I’m not super speedy either. Taking time just comes with the territory. I want to make sure I get it right, since this is my first book. It’s also taking double long because my original editor left Harper Collins and my new editor had different suggestions.

What about you guys? Fast with edits, slow with edits?

  1. Good luck with your editing! I know how that goes. I consider myself to be pretty fast, but it's harder when life gets in the way! Hope everything goes well with your new editor.

  2. Depends. My edits usually take as long as my first draft. Thankfully, I took more time on my last project. The edits took just a few weeks.

I wish you the best with your editing! :)

  3. Editing is the slowest part of my writing process. It can take forever to get it just right, can't it? Good luck!

  4. I guess I'm slow, mainly because I get knit-picky about certain things.

  5. That would be tough to have a new editor with a different set of suggestions.

PS: I changed my URL and username back to southpaw, but managed to mess up my feeds.

  6. Good Luck with your edits!

As for me, I tend to be quicker. But I just wrote a first draft in record time, and I think the edits are going to take much longer.

  7. It depends on the material for me.

    Good luck with it!

  8. I'm sure handling Big Six edits are going to be way more difficult than any us writers out here can drum up for an afternoon. Good luck with them.

  9. I think editing comes in spurts for me. I'll take a long time trying to figure out exactly what is wrong with a chapter or paragraph, but then once the light switches on I can race through what obviously should have been done from the beginning.

  10. I just started edits with my editor, and it's going pretty fast so far. Hopefully I don't get stuck!

    Happy editing!

  11. Wow, that must have been hard, having the editor leave when you're in the middle of things. And then to have the new editor make different suggestions, I'd be pulling my hair out (if I had any)...

  12. Getting a new editor in the middle of the editing process must be hard. Good luck.
